Safety Tips

  • Swim in life guarded areas, & check with them
    daily regarding ocean conditions.
  • Never swim, snorkel or surf alone.
    Use the buddy system & swim fins when possible.
  • Watch the ocean for at least 20 minutes before entering.
    Waves & surges come in sets with calm periods in between.
  • Never turn your back to the ocean.
  • Do not rely on flotation devices such as surfboards, boogie boards & rafts. If you can't swim, stay on the shoreline.
  • Look for warning signs & flags, and take their
    message seriously.
  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed on most beaches, and no matter which beach you choose, lock your car and never, ever leave your valuables unattended.
  • Supervise children closely, even when a lifeguard is present.
  • Never dive head-first into the water.
  • If caught in a rip current: Don't panic; don't fight it;
    swim parallel to the shore, then in.
  • Slip, Slap, Slop! Slip into a shirt, slap on a hat, slop on the sunscreen. Protect yourself from the sun.
